Actuarial Analyst (L&H Reserving)
Job Description
As a member of the Canada Life & Health Reserving team, the successful candidate will participate in various actuarial tasks of the department. This job represents a great opportunity for a candidate interested in gaining experience in several areas of corporate actuarial/reserving and to grasp the real impact of their work.
This role will gain exposure to a variety of functions, including IFRS17 and Solvency II reporting activities, LICAT reporting and capital management, assumption development, and AXIS modelling initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Quarterly Valuation Processes: Calculate IFRS17 and Solvency II technical provisions and analyze the results.
- LICAT Reporting & Capital Management: Support reporting and capital management activities.
- Assumption Development: Assist in developing actuarial assumptions that drive our business decisions.
- AXIS Modelling Initiatives: Contribute to the development and maintenance of AXIS and other valuation models and tools.
- Reporting and Presentations: Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations for senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Additional Initiatives: Support other L&H Reserving initiatives as needed.
The successful candidate is expected to be an actuarial student with demonstrated relevant experience. Required competencies and skills of the candidate include relevant corporate actuarial/reserving experience, IFRS17 expertise, and AXIS knowledge.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science or related field with a demonstrated record of academic excellence.
- 2-3 years of relevant working experience within the insurance/reinsurance industry, although motivated candidates with the right background and less working experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in actuarial software and programming languages (e.g., Excel, VBA, SQL, Python, SAS, PowerBI).
- Experience with AXIS is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Well-organized and a self-directed individual who is a team player.
- Demonstrated ability to handle priorities/projects concurrently and to deliver.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills.
- French language proficiency, while not a prerequisite, will be considered an asset.
