Actuarial Analyst (Ceded Reinsurance)

The opportunity:

The Global Ceded Reinsurance Department is responsible for overseeing reinsurance strategy and placement and performs a meaningful role in handling and hedging reinsurance risk through the effective use of reinsurance.

This role will allow you to forge strong relationships with key individuals and gain exposure to Reserving, Pricing, Capital Modelling, Analytics, assist MINT in achieving consistent underwriting profit by various means, such as demonstrating solvency and providing support to a variety of divisions and products within MINT’s diverse portfolio.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support in the continued development of Markel’s Ceded Re analytics capabilities to improve our ability to analyse reinsurance structures and optimisation of reinsurance spend with regards to the risk appetite.
  • Collect relevant data from internal data hubs and prepare data exhibits within Reinsurance renewal submissions, partnering with Reinsurance Placement colleagues to ensure all exhibits are collated timely and accurately.
  • Build engaging data stories by performing movement analysis since last data runs and investigating material developments.
  • Support post placement data capture and portfolio analysis, including spend analysis, cost allocation and impact on profitability.
  • Improve current processes and develop reporting solutions and data visualisation techniques to provide valuable Ceded Reinsurance insights and services to the business.
  • Build strong working partnerships data owners in the organisation.

Our must-haves:

  • Some experience in the actuarial domain.
  • Understanding of insurance and actuarial concepts.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Power BI.
  • Experience with data manipulation tools like SQL, Alteryx or similar.
