Actuary/Risk Analyst

About the Role

The role of Actuary and Risk Analyst China has dual responsibilities:

As Actuary, the main focus will be support local Head APAC Reserving and China Chief Actuary on reserving and financial reporting. Furthermore, the position supports the business unit's growth strategy by collaborating in various actuarial related projects such as IFRS17. The main responsibilities are:

  • Actuarial support in IFRS17 and China growth strategies
  • Support Local reserving team to perform quarterly and monthly estimation of P&C insurance portfolio reserves (China Statutory, US GAAP) including close cooperation with major internal stakeholders (Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, Finance/Accounting)
  • Estimation of the corresponding pay-out patterns serving as one of the input parameters for EVM, IFRS17, local solvency calculations
  • Support APAC Reserving initiatives
  • Prepare appropriate recommendations to reserve committees and legal entity management
  • Detailed ad-hoc portfolio reviews and analysis as required including management support
  • Ensures adequate feedback loops to Underwriting, Claims and Finance
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local actuarial and industry associations

As Risk Analyst, support GC CRO by providing oversight over risk-taking activities for CorSo in Greater China. In this role, the position is responsible for identifying, analysing, mitigating and monitoring risks and issues across all risk factors in CorSo Greater China, helping the business not only steer away from risks that could destabilize Swiss Re, but also identify risks worth taking, in existing and new risk pools. You will provide necessary support to the CRO on local/regional projects/initiatives on an ad-hoc basis.

Risk governance:

  • Build, maintain and foster high quality relationships with business team
  • Supports in proactively driving a risk-aware culture in Greater China
  • Collaborate with the regional and global Risk Management team to deliver quality risk advice and transparency

Risk controlling, transparency and advisory:

  • Support the implementation of risk standards and risk control framework which are in compliance with the local regulatory requirements and Group Risk Management standards
  • Identify risk issues associated with the underlying business and operations, assess appropriateness of the internal control environment and develop mitigation action plans
  • Support in organizing risk management discussions, meetings and committees
  • Support monitoring and oversight on the risk exposures including insurance, reserving, operational, financial market, credit, funding and liquidity risks
  • Responsible for engaging with the business to identify, mitigate and report on operational issues and event. Facilitate the risk owners to perform RCSA process for personal lines
  • Support communication with external stakeholders including regulators and industry leaders

CorSo Greater China Risk and Reserving team is located in Shanghai, comprises about 7 risk and actuarial professionals, working closely with risk analysts in other areas and local business stakeholders to facilitate local business a success.

About You

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in General Insurance actuarial (including reserving and pricing) or risk management fields

• University degree in actuarial science or related field (mathematics or statistics)

• Qualified (or close to) actuary of local or an internationally recognized association

• Good understanding of actuarial, accounting, information systems and investments

• Knowledge of statutory and regulatory environments in China with experiences in product filing

• Proactive in seeking out and providing information

• Knowledge in Python, VBA and ResQ is a plus

• Knowledge and experience in IFRS17 is a plus

• Good organization, prioritization and planning skills

• Actively looks to add value and take on additional responsibility

• Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks accordingly

• Strong interpersonal, communication and consulting skills

• Flexible and ability to deliver on deadlines

• Fluent in Chinese and English
