(Senior) Actuarial Associate

Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is currently seeking talented candidates for a full-time Actuarial Associate / Sr Actuarial Associate position within the Annuity Solutions department.

An Actuarial Associate is a rotational position in Hannover Re’s Actuarial Development Program (“ADP”), with an expectation that the Actuarial Associate will be in a rotation for approximately 18-24 months before moving to another rotational role or taking a role outside of the ADP.

The Actuarial Associate’s primary responsibility is to support the business needs of the respective department while maintaining good standing in the ADP.

Essential Functions:

(15%)Participating and maintaining good standing in the Actuarial Development Program.

(50%)Technical support and analysis

  • Reviews and analyzes annuity products, both for due diligence and market competitive comparison.
  • Summarizes and evaluates all considerations related to a potential block of business: experience, demographics, assumptions, product options, etc., to aide in the pricing of the business.
  • Builds and/or runs actuarial models, including baseline and sensitivities, for annuity business for pricing package or capital calculations.
  • Enhances and codes actuarial models to accurately reflect reinsurance treaty mechanics.
  • Produces all requested/required analysis to support due diligence for a proposed transaction.

(25%)Business management and collaboration

  • Comprehensively documents and is prepared to speak to completed analysis for internal or external stakeholders.
  • Actively manages multiple priorities and responsibilities.
  • Looks for ways to improve analysis and/or processes.
  • Proactively works to build strong relationships with others in the department and the company.
  • Actively participates in meetings, asking questions, answering questions and/or providing valuable input.
  • Assists peers and Actuarial Interns, as requested or required, to foster growth and development within the department.

(10%)Ad-hoc projects / Other

  • Assists with ad-hoc projects in the department or company, as needed.
  • Researches annuity products, market trends, industry experience studies, etc., as directed.

Essential knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar
  • Must be actively seeking ASA, then FSA credential from the Society of Actuaries
  • 2+ years of experience in an actuarial role
  • Intermediate PC skills, to include Microsoft Office
  • Technical actuarial aptitude
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Desired knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Programming knowledge: R, SQL, VBA
  • Actuarial modelling experience: MG-ALFA, Risk Agility
  • Experience with Solvency II or stochastic based capital
  • Understanding or experience of annuity products sold in the US
  • Understanding or experience with reinsurance
  • Understanding or experience with CARVM, AG33, AG43

Travel:

  • Expected minimal travel requirements at pre-ASA level, light travel at ASA to FSA level may be requested

Total Compensation Range (Inclusive of Base + Bonus):

  • $72,800 - $159,600
