About the Role

In this role, you apply your proven, solid quantitative skills to business problems, delivering tangible, business-relevant insights based on robust quantitative analyses. Staying abreast of ongoing developments in data science, you help the team identify innovations that are most relevant and applicable to our data and tasks.

Identifying convincing as well as counter-intuitive results and drawing business-relevant inferences are our natural test of applicability and relevance.

Through continuous, close interactions with our partner teams you will be:

  • Working with our unique Casualty exposure data, supporting the team in further enhancing it, enriching it with further relevant data.
  • Extracting actionable business insights while helping us identify and apply the right tools from the rapidly evolving data science landscape.
  • Together with our actuarial colleagues, working on ongoing developments of costing models and tools for Casualty business.

About the Unit and the Team

Our work at Swiss Re's Casualty Portfolio Analytics and Steering department is all about data-led underwriting in Casualty, both deal-specific and at portfolio level. Identifying trends in Casualty business and translating them into costing and portfolio steering is our passion.

We are a multi-national team of around 40 actuaries, underwriters, and data scientists with a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and professional experience operating out of various locations.

About You

You are able to translate quantitative results into intuitive visualizations and figures to communicate and support the business message. Eager to interact directly with our stakeholders in costing, underwriting, and reserving, you help the team ensure buy-in to our solutions and collect feedback for further developments and refinements.

In addition to a solid actuarial or data-analytical background, you can demonstrate your ability to perform within a diverse team spread over multiple locations and different time zones.

Your qualifications and interests:

  • Actuarial or data-analytical background, able to demonstrate robust hands-on experience within the domain.
  • Interest in the casualty (re)insurance domain, possibly supported by actuarial studies.
  • Passion and curiosity to work in a diverse international environment.
  • While not necessarily an experienced programmer, you are interested in hands-on quantitative analyses and possess solid analytical experience, e.g., with Python or R.
  • Proactive and strong communicator in English, both written and oral.
  • With a focus on getting things done, you are a team player, bringing a deep appreciation and understanding of Swiss Re culture and values.
