Valuation Actuary

Job Summary

As a key member of the SCOR China Life & Health Reserving team, your role will be focused on valuation under IFRS/SII/C-GAAP and project support.

This will include preparation of quarterly reserves, uploading these into SCOR's systems, understanding and analysing the results and movements, reviewing the work of other team members, and producing reports for IFRS/SII/C-GAAP reporting bases.

You will have the opportunity to liaise with colleagues across the SCOR group, explaining the results to our stakeholders and participating in strategic projects.

Responsibilities

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Review and production support of the IFRS, Solvency II, and C-GAAP results for China L&H business including methodology, model enhancement, quarterly reporting, and documentation preparation.
  • Perform the annual/half yearly Analysis of Change process on SII results; liaise with local Technical Accounting team to produce IFRS Estimate result; liaise with local finance accounting team to produce C-GAAP result.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Standardise and continuously improve reserving processes, analysis, and controls.
  • Monitor valuation regulation revolutions and support potential solution design.
  • Actively support the financial analysis to identify the key risks and movements.
  • Support various financial and valuation projects.

Relationships

  • Work with stakeholders across the group, including the APAC L&H Actuarial team and the Modelling Centre of Excellence.
  • Liaise with local Technical Accounting team and China Finance team.
  • Work closely with other teams within APAC, including the L&H business unit, Pricing, and Risk management.

Qualifications

Required experience & competencies

  • 6 – 8 years of working experience in the life insurance industry in China.
  • Strong experience in financial reporting and valuation at a reinsurer, direct insurer, or consulting firm.
  • Background with valuation, actuarial consulting, IFRS/C-GAAP/C-ROSS, life reinsurance, and Prophet Modelling is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and dedicated to meeting the expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience of reviewing others' work and managing tasks independently.
  • Creates a supportive environment when coaching junior members within the team and when working with other teams.
  • Interest in career and skill development.

Required Education

  • University education in actuarial or quantitative subject.
  • ASA or equivalent is preferred for valuation actuary.
