Actuarial Analyst (Health)

Overview

Milliman is looking for an Actuarial Analyst to assist consulting actuaries with the development and use of actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and forecasting. Our team of skilled professionals reviews, organizes, and analyzes statistical data, develops and utilizes actuarial models, analyzes healthcare costs and utilization data, and implements software solutions under actuaries' supervision.

Milliman's Indianapolis Health practice provides professional services to a broad array of clients in the healthcare sector, with a primary focus on Medicaid, Life Sciences, and Healthcare Management consulting. This position joins our growing Medicaid team, currently supporting actuarial services for 10+ states across the U.S.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze healthcare cost and utilization data using spreadsheets and databases
  • Review, organize and analyze statistical data using Excel, R or SQL
  • Examine benefit plan and insurance pricing
  • Perform experience analysis and reserving
  • Complete technical research and computer modeling
  • Provide financial and statistical analysis
  • Reconcile claims data and project future costs

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge or training in a computer programming language
  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs
  • Strong analytical, communication, time management, and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow technical instructions
  • Treats others with respect
  • Acts as a good representative of the practice both professionally and socially

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or a related major with quantitative coursework
  • Passed at least 1 Society of Actuaries examination
  • 0 to 1 year of work experience

Preferred

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.3
  • Prior actuarial internship experience

The Team

The Indianapolis Health Practice is strategically structured to serve state Medicaid agencies and other health and human services agencies. We create dedicated core teams for each state Medicaid agency client that are customized to serve each of our clients' unique needs.

New staff are placed on a dedicated state client team, learning from seasoned consultants. As a member of a state client team, you will observe how we provide comprehensive consulting services which span many different disciplines and backgrounds including actuarial, policy, finance, pharmacy, and data management, all working together for a common goal to best serve our clients' needs.

Location

The person hired for this role will work in a dynamic, hybrid environment, with 2 to 3 days per week of on-site work required in our Indianapolis office on a weekly basis.
