ExactVAL is hiring a

DB Pension Scheme Valuation Specialist

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire (Office or Hybrid)

ExactVAL has almost 20-years’ experience offering insurers and pension consultancies the facility to outsource DB actuarial valuations, where we provide detailed future cashflow projections as part of this analysis.

We are a small friendly team with a mixture of office or hybrid working based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Current staff include 4 qualified pension actuaries, each with over 25 years’ experience and 6-part qualified actuaries.

Now, we’re looking for a DB Pension Scheme Valuation Specialist to join us in delivering high-quality valuation work that meets the needs of our growing client base.

About the Role

You’ll be part of our technical actuarial team, setting up, reviewing, and enhancing models that support DB scheme valuations—most often in the context of insurance buy-out markets. You won’t be siloed; you’ll work across different schemes with a variety of team members and projects.

We’ll provide full training on our proprietary software (Mon.et) and internal processes, but your pensions experience, curiosity, and technical mindset will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing scheme documentation and RFQs
  • Preparing, testing, and mapping data
  • Working with our Mon.et software to set up valuation models
  • Checking outputs and drafting short reports
  • Responding to client queries as they arise
  • Identifying and supporting opportunities to improve internal processes
  • Supporting GMP equalisation work where required

Who We’re Looking For

You could be a qualified actuary or a part-qualified student — either way, you have relevant pensions experience and enjoy the technical side of actuarial work. You’ll be comfortable working collaboratively in a flat team structure without the pressure of managing people or owning client relationships.

Must-have Skills & Experience

  • Experience in UK defined benefit pensions
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Detail-oriented with a process improvement mindset
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • A team-first attitude
  • Right to work in the UK (unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available)

Nice-to-have

  • GMP equalisation experience

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • Actuarial study support
  • Generous holiday package
  • Flexible working arrangements (office or hybrid)
  • Start date: ASAP

At ExactVAL, you’ll be surrounded by seasoned actuaries, solving real challenges from day one. If you enjoy working with data, solving puzzles, and producing meaningful outputs in a supportive environment—this is the role for you.
