Exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate Actuary.

Location: current schedule is hybrid (40-50% in the Amelia, Ohio office).

Purpose:

Manage/direct the development, analysis, evaluation, and modeling of potential solutions using actuarial and/or predictive modeling methods to support the financial profitability and production goals of the company. Act as a high-level technical expert and work with management to provide strategic direction.

Lead projects associated with the development and update of actuarial/predictive models and databases through formula development, research on methodologies, and collaboration on technical items.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Complete actuarial and/or predictive modeling analyses appropriate for the functional area, including rate filings, ultimate loss projections, pricing studies, and portfolio analysis.
  • Direct the modification and enhancement of existing applications to address specific issues.
  • Manage and lead communication, documentation, and coordination of information between actuarial departments and internal/external colleagues.
  • Lead in the development of new methodologies, products, and procedures for American Modern.
  • Peer review technical actuarial and/or predictive modeling work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate or lead in the training of others on the use of models and the interpretation of results.
  • Prepare for and pass actuarial exams and attain appropriate continuing education.
  • Ensure all work adheres to applicable Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Maintain an expert level of technical actuarial and statistical skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply judgment and problem-solving skills to address complex issues.

Required Technical Skills:

Proficient computer skills and application of MS Office Suite, including actuarial software used for reserving, ratemaking, pricing, and data analysis.

Skills / Knowledge / Experience:

Generally, six (6) or more years of (re)insurance/actuarial experience is required.

Pricing experience preferred.

Education, Certifications & Designations:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field.
  • Membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society with the attainment of Associateship (ACAS).
  • Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
