Senior Reserving Actuary (L&H)

Job Description

As a Senior Reserving Actuary within the Life and Health Global Reserving Centre, you will play a vital role in assuring and reporting on the quality of the SCOR Life & Health (L&H) reserves related to its diverse global portfolio of L&H business.

You will work closely with the SCOR L&H reserving and modelling teams throughout the world on various reserving topics. This includes the implementation of SCORโ€™s L&H reserving strategy and supporting the forward planning of L&H reserving impacts across all bases & metrics.

You will also support the activity to review experience and set best estimate assumptions across the reserving teams. This involves discussing the assumption review scope with teams and providing support on key Finance projects.

As part of the role, you will provide support & guidance to other L&H reserving teams on issues of methodology, appropriate techniques, and expert judgement, especially as it relates to your scope of work. You will support the Head of L&H GRC to manage global reserving topics and ensure consistency of approach across all local reserving teams.

You will be a key part of the Global Reserving Centre team, with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy.

Responsibilities

Key duties and responsibilities

Landing & Analysis

  • Support GRC Financial and Actuarial Analysis Lead with the robust forward planning of L&H reserving impacts across all bases (IFRS4, IFRS17, SII, local GAAP) and metrics (earnings, capital, liquidity).
  • Work closely with local reserving teams to proactively identify any upcoming model, assumption, or volume change impacts that will affect the cashflow projections or reserves.
  • Support the landing process to ensure SCOR leadership has full appreciation of the forward-looking picture across all bases and key metrics, including optionality and risks.
  • Analyse and deliver insights and commentary on reserving & actuarial drivers of performance, providing value-adding insight on movements in IFRS and SII results, experience emergence, and recommendations for management actions.
  • Help to produce the actuarial narrative on L&H business to support Business Performance teams.

Reserving Methodology & Strategy

  • Provide expertise on new developments in reserving methods and regulations, covering all reserving bases (Solvency II, IFRS17) and providing support to local L&H reserving teams on local GAAP/capital as required.
  • Support the GRC Reserving Methodology & Strategy Lead with the development of insightful and novel approaches to complex and interesting global reserving topics.
  • Ensure consistency of approach across local reserving teams.
  • Support the global actuarial audit.

Assumptions

  • Support the activity to review experience and set best estimate assumptions across the reserving teams.
  • Discuss the assumption review scope with local teams and take this forward for approval with SCOR finance & actuarial leadership.
  • Lead the global expense assumption review, working closely with the expense teams to refine and improve the process and accuracy.
  • Monitor updates of the financial impacts of assumption review activity across all KPIs for reporting to SCOR leadership.
  • Support the L&H Reserving teams' contribution to the annual internal model calibration activity.

Support & Guidance

  • Provide support & guidance to other L&H reserving teams on issues of methodology, appropriate techniques, and expert judgement, especially as it relates to your scope of work.
  • Provide thought leadership for SCOR on L&H reserving and finance topics.
  • Support the GRC Team to manage global reserving topics and ensure consistency of approach across all local reserving teams.

Relationships

  • Work directly with colleagues across all the market L&H reserving teams globally.
  • Communicate actuarial issues to other Finance teams and SCOR management in the context of reserving methodology, earnings, capital, liquidity, etc.
  • Work with the L&H business unit to align on emerging experience, particularly the Research & Development, Pricing, and In-force Management teams, as part of the pricing/reserving feedback loop.
  • Liaise with Risk & Group Actuarial on all relevant topics, including the landing, impacts on RA/RM, and the L&H internal model calibration.

Support strategic Finance and L&H Projects as required.

Qualifications

Required experience & competencies

Experience:

  • Qualified Actuary (FIA, FSA or equivalent) with 5+ years PQE.
  • Significant experience in reserving/reporting (IFRS or Solvency II), gained in a Life & Health (re)insurance context.
  • Experience leading projects, workstreams, and/or teams, and collaborating with senior stakeholders.

  • Producer of clear auditable evidentiary documentation.
  • Proactive, takes strong ownership, committed to delivery.
