London – Hybrid working, 2 days per week in the office

What you’ll be doing

The purpose of this role is to support the Lead Data Engineer in developing and maintaining robust data solutions for the Actuarial reserving team.

  • Support the Lead Data Engineer with the development of the data modelling systems.
  • Develop new integrations for Claims and policy data, ensuring controls and reconciliations are in place to ensure the robustness of data.
  • Undertake the testing of new interfaces using tools such as Python and SAS enterprise to reconcile and identify outliers.
  • Ensure adoption of best practices in terms of data procurement, version control, governance, and maintenance.
  • Ensure that data governance and controls are followed to maintain data integrity and robustness of the models.
  • Improve the quality of MI and manage competing MI/data requests.
  • Provide analytical support and insight to inform business decisions and strategy, ensuring robustness of output.
  • Deliver specific tasks and projects in a timely and accurate manner, providing insights, impacts, and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to enable tasks to be performed more efficiently.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of models on an ongoing basis and suggest areas for development.
  • Interact effectively with peers in other areas to improve knowledge sharing and understand the impacts of your work.
  • Build knowledge of reserving and capital modelling systems and processes; develop your business and market knowledge.
  • Reinforce the culture and core values of DLG Insurance through appropriate behaviours and actions.
  • Comply with all relevant legal, regulatory, and risk management frameworks.
  • Own and manage risks appropriate to the role in line with the DLG Insurance risk framework.

What you’ll need

  • Relevant work experience within a data analytical role.
  • Good understanding of data quality principles.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the use of SAS, R, or Python (coding and writing data manipulation).
  • Experienced SQL developer.
  • Experience in the use of analytical tools and techniques for analysing large datasets.
  • Strong mathematical and Excel skills.
  • Passionate about modelling development, data science, and machine learning techniques.
  • Understanding of process orchestration, workflow, and ETL tools.
  • Understanding of Claims Analytics would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience using Psicle, Tyche, or other Actuarial modelling tools would be beneficial but not essential.
